Passionnée de voyages, Catherine Vinay invente ses itinéraires du bout du monde : des eaux volcaniques du lac Atitlan aux dunes blanches d’Alamogordo, des Indiens Uros sur le lac Titicaca au peuple Himba du Kaokoland. Son compagnon de « baroud », exceptionnellement fidèle et argentique jusqu’il y a très peu, cadre les paysages et capte les regards. Depuis quelques années, elle photographie les « Gris-Gris », espèce peu connue, originaire d’Albanie.

Passionnée de cinéma, elle fait escale au Festival de Cannes chaque année depuis plus de 30 ans. Sans sésame particulier, elle part à la recherche des personnalités du cinéma, comédiens et réalisateurs. Une sorte de safari amoureux, à la rencontre d’aventures très fugaces, manquées parfois, toujours chargées d’émotion.

Passionnée de récit, ce professeur de lettres, auteur, croque et traduit le moment d’échange avec son sujet animé ou non. Ses photos sont donc accompagnées de textes qu’elle nous livre avec humour, émotion. Ses récits illustrent sa quête de ces instants volés, intenses ou anodins, bavards ou muets. Aux Gris-Gris, elle offre des histoires presque vraies. Des coups de foudre à partager !

Her trips have taken her from the Atitlan Lake (Guatemala) to the Atacama Desert (Chile), from the Himba women beauty (Namibia) to the Uros islands children (Peru). She travels accompanying a  friend, an argentic friend until recently, her camera. For a few years, she has been photographing « Gris-Gris », a little-known species from Albania.

Her particular passion for cinema led her to Cannes : since 1985 Catherine Vinay has been a Cannes Festival photographer beginning as a student from the university of Paris IV-Sorbonne in Paris. Then the stars of cinema have been a special focus of her photography.

Without any press acreditation, she always look for transitional moments between photo calls, interviews, screenings… She has to be efficient with her creative energy as well as her physicall energy : walking all the day, waiting at the back exits of the hotels or hurring down the lined-up limos… Catherine emploies many strategies : she runs ahead the actor, she waits, she moves closer or steps back. Then it’s matter of time, of being willing to wait. Her photographs are driven by great passion of cinema, actors and directors. Her favorite instant is when the meeting is so exceptional for her to be fascinated and frightened by it. 

Teacher in another life, author, she accompanies each of his photos of a text that describes the conditions of the shooting, sometimes epic, and exchange with the personality encountered. At « Gris-Gris » she offers almost true stories : love at first sight !
